Despite rumors of a potential WWE return, former AEW Champion Chris Jericho returned to AEW Dynamite this week – putting a halt to those speculations. But why did the former WWE Champion not return? After months of speculation about a potential move to WWE, very few would have expected the Demo God to resume his run in AEW, but it all started making sense after his recent trademark filing, hinting that he wasn’t done with All Elite Wrestling just yet. Now that he is back “home”, the chatter around his return has emerged. WWE Wanted Chris Jericho For A Retirement Tour, More On His AEW Return During the post-Dynamite episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed what he’d heard about Chris Jericho’s status, confirming that the former AEW World Champion was in talks with WWE. The most recent update Meltzer received suggested Jericho wasn’t coming back to WWE anytime soon, or probably never will. WWE reportedly wanted Chris Jericho for a retirement tour, and while Dave wasn’t certain, he speculated that’s probably not something the 55-year-old wanted at this stage of his career and wished to have a longer run. “I know he’d been talking with WWE; they thought at one point he was going. The response from WWE was that he is not coming to WWE now, anytime soon, and maybe never. From the WWE standpoint, and I don’t know what they told him, I was told that they wanted him for a retirement tour, okay? And maybe that’s not what he wanted, but I don’t know. I just know that they told me that they wanted him for a retirement tour, and that was it. With AEW, perhaps he was going to get more longevity.” WBD officials were aware of Chris Jericho’s AEW return, and there was also a lot of talk throughout the day in Winnipeg ahead of Dynamite, with many sure of his appearance. Dave Meltzer also spoke about the monetary aspect, noting that AEW might have probably still been a better deal for Chris Jericho while also having more creative input than he would have had in WWE. Le Champion had been absent from All Elite Wrestling for an extended period, and his contract was allegedly even frozen, which made fans wonder if he’d ever work again for Tony Khan. We finally have our answer as Chris Jericho is set for another chapter in AEW, and as he said it himself, fans need to enjoy the ride.
