Seth Rollins can make history by having a successful MITB cash in, twice. He has already pulled off ‘the heist of the century‘ at WrestleMania 31. What could be next?
The Visionary grabbed the Money in the Bank briefcase, which now allows him to ‘cash in’ at any time on a Champion of his choosing. While such plans are always kept under wraps, a recent decision by Triple H might have given away the exact date of his cash-in.
As per a recent backstage report, Triple H made a late call to have Jey Uso drop the World Heavyweight Championship to Gunther on RAW. His reign ended at 51 days. His father, Rikishi, was clearly very unhappy about it. However, there was a solid reason behind The Game’s pivot.
The report revealed that Triple H wanted Goldberg’s last match in WWE to be against Gunther, and he wanted it to be for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match is set for July 12 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in what will be Goldberg’s final WWE match. However, that might also be the date when The Visionary cashed in his MITB contract to become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
Triple H deciding to put the title back on Gunther was a head-scratcher for many. Even if he did want Gunther to be Goldberg’s final opponent, why add the World title to the equation? The match would have been marquee regardless.
For one, it makes the outcome a bit obvious. Surely, Goldberg won’t win the World Title in his last match! Which would obviously mean that Gunther would beat The Myth at SNME. Unless Triple H has been planning a major plot twist.
Goldberg lost his last singles match in the company, which was against then Universal Champion Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022. Everyone who knows Goldberg would also know that he’s not the man to go out with a whimper, and would want to go out strong. The former Universal Champion may have asked to win his final match in the company.
So Triple H could be planning to kill two birds with one stone and have Goldberg get his dream retirement by winning the World Championship in his last match, only for The Visionary to barge in and cash in on the unaware and oblivious Goldberg, who would be busy celebrating his win.
For one, that outcome was too predictable. Social Media was flooded with predictions that Rollins would cash in during the Jey Uso vs Gunther match on RAW.
Secondly, WWE likely didn’t book it that way because they believed Gunther would look weak if he didn’t get his win back from Uso—especially with plans to build him up for a match against Goldberg. To avenge the humiliation of losing the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 41, Der Ring General needed a clean victory over his rival, Jey Uso.
