Former TNA World Champion Rich Swann is out of the company he had been a part of since 2018.
Former TNA Wrestling standout recently joined the K100 podcast and offered a candid explanation about his departure from the company.
Contrary to reports, Swann made it clear that he was never officially released.
“I wasn’t released,” Swann clarified. “What actually happened was that I got suspended, and after that, I didn’t hear anything back from management.” He went on to explain that behind-the-scenes changes played a major role. “There was a shift in management—the people I had originally dealt with were no longer there.”
Swann revealed that he was handed a 30-day suspension and was told that contract discussions would follow, especially since his deal was set to expire in December with an option for a one-year extension and a potential raise.
However, plans changed. “I was later told that IMPACT was changing its business model,” Swann explained. “They didn’t want to offer guaranteed contracts anymore.” Still, Swann took accountability: “I understand from a company’s standpoint—they don’t want someone associated with past controversies involving arrests or alcohol. I take full responsibility for my actions.”
His contact expired in April 2025 and was not renewed by the company.
The former WWE Cruiserwight Champion shed light on the incident that resulted in his suspension from TNA, recounting a bizarre and unfortunate night that ultimately led to a major turning point in his life—his sobriety.
Swann explained that after a night out, he was dropped off by an Uber at his gated apartment complex. While fumbling for his keys to enter, he accidentally approached the wrong unit, mistaking his neighbor’s home for his own.
“I wasn’t driving or anything like that,” Swann clarified. “I had just come back from a party and thought I was entering my place—but I ended up trying to walk into my neighbor’s house. It wasn’t the first time it had happened.”
The situation escalated quickly. According to Swann, the neighbor—alarmed by what seemed like a break-in—met him at the door with a gun. “He recognized me and goes, ‘Rich? Man, you’re drunk,’” Swann recalled. “He had the gun right to my head before realizing it was me.”
While no one was harmed, the incident led to legal consequences and, eventually, Swann’s suspension from TNA. In retrospect, however, Swann views it as a wake-up call—one that has kept him sober for nearly a year.
