Has Hikaru Shida Left AEW? – Major Update About Her Current Status Provided

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida has finally addressed her extended absence from AEW, revealing that ongoing visa issues have kept her from returning to the U.S.

Why is Hikaru Shida missing from AEW?

In a recent video posted to her YouTube channel, Shida explained that she’s currently in Japan, navigating the complex process of renewing her visa—something that has proven more difficult in recent times due to increased demand and logistical delays.

> “I really hope to [return soon]. Visa, especially nowadays, it’s getting hard,” Shida shared. “AEW has so many wrestlers and the lawyer has to do so many things. I know it takes time. I hope I can go back to AEW soon. For now, I am enjoying my stay in Japan and getting more energy to wrestle in the US again. I’m looking forward to my comeback. Please wait and I’m so glad if you support me.”

Despite being off television since November 2024, the former champion has remained connected with fans through her YouTube content and social media. Earlier this year, she even shared a lighthearted update that Kenny Omega has been looking after her cats in her absence.

Has Hikaru Shida Left AEW?

Though a specific return date hasn’t been confirmed, Shida’s update is an encouraging sign for AEW fans. Her absence has left a noticeable void in the women’s division, and anticipation continues to build for the return of one of AEW’s original cornerstones.

So, the answer to the question has Hikaru Shida left AEW? is clearly no. She will eventually return, it is only a matter of when.

Kenny Omega spoke about looking after her cats while she is gone

During a Twitch stream, Omega, AEW EVP and current International Champion, revealed that Shida has been in Japan for several months due to visa renewal requirements. The delay has kept the former AEW Women’s World Champion from returning to U.S. programming this year.

While she’s away, Omega has taken on an unexpected role—looking after Shida’s beloved cats.

Every couple of years, wrestlers need to head home to renew their visas, and unfortunately that can take a while,” Omega said. “I didn’t want her cats to be left alone, especially since they get anxious when she’s not around. Luckily, they’ve bonded well with my cat, Dobby. They’re getting along, and honestly, I enjoy having them. It’s not a hassle at all.”

Though there’s still no official timeline for Shida’s return, fans can rest assured that she’s doing well—and so are her pets!
