Jey Uso may be holding the World Heavyweight Championship, but don’t expect his dad to be popping champagne anytime soon. WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi is once again letting the world know: he’s not feeling the way creative is handling his son’s career. And this time, he’s not mincing a single word.
The WWE Hall of Famer has constantly shown his disapproval when it comes to the booking of his sons in WWE. Now his gripe is with the creative team who he feels should not be placing Uso in Tag Team matches but rather one-on-one matches for the World Championship at the WWE PLEs.
On the latest episode of Off The Top Rope, Rikishi got the news in real-time—Jey Uso will be tagging with Cody Rhodes at Money in the Bank to face John Cena and Logan Paul. His reaction? Classic Rikishi, no filter:
“Bro, why? Why? I mean, Jey is a World Heavyweight Champion. He should be standing on his own. They really need to fire creative over there! Just book me so I can book my son’s matches, man. You know what I mean?”
Tell us how you really feel, Rikishi.
But it didn’t stop there. Rikishi also called out WWE’s handling of Jey’s feud with Logan Paul—specifically, how quickly they pulled the trigger on the finish. He had props for Logan (rare praise from the Samoan legend), but said the booking left a lot on the table:
“Like I said before, I like Logan. He’s talented and knows how to get heat. But damn, I wouldn’t have had Jey beat him right away. They should’ve built it up to something bigger—like a cage match or some kind of gimmick match. Now that he’s beaten Paul, what’s next? A tag match? Alright…”
The message is loud and clear: Rikishi wants more for his son—and way less from WWE’s creative. Whether or not the company listens? That’s a whole other match.
Rikishi wants Jey Uso’s upcoming match against Gunther changed
Main Event Jey Uso will be defending his World Heavyweight Championship against his long-time rival Gunther, on the June 9th edition of RAW. While many fans feel that this match belonged on a PLE card rather than RAW, Rikishi’s grievance is different. He believes the match should have a stipulation.
“We’re just gonna have GUNTHER hang around until the match? If I was GUNTHER, I’d want Jey now. This should’ve been a gimmick match — something big like a double cage. That brings excitement. If Jey wins, it takes him to another level. But if GUNTHER loses, where does he go next?” said Rikishi
It took Uso three attempts to finally defeat Gunther and win the World Heavyweight Championship. Many believe that Uso’s fairytale will end on June 9th as The Ring General will reclaim the what he lost at WrestleMania 41.
