“Stone Cold” Steve Austin could be returning and may not be done raising hell in the ring just yet.
The WWE Hall of Famer famously came out of retirement at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, where he defeated Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match—his first bout in nearly two decades. At the time, many believed this would be Austin’s final chapter inside the squared circle. But according to a new report, the Texas Rattlesnake might still have one last match left in him.
As per Fightful Select, several individuals who interacted with Austin during WrestleMania 41 weekend noted that he was dropping subtle hints about a possible return. One source even quoted Austin as saying he “might have one more in him,” suggesting he wasn’t simply talking about another crowd-popping ATV ride.
Though Austin previously mentioned that TKO Group Holdings—the company now overseeing WWE—hasn’t formally approached him for another match, he was involved in this year’s WrestleMania festivities and looked to be in excellent shape. Those who saw him backstage said he seemed both physically ready and mentally open to stepping into the ring again, provided the circumstances were right.
This isn’t the first time WWE has flirted with the idea of another Austin match. Back in 2023, internal discussions reportedly explored dream scenarios involving Roman Reigns. Brock Lesnar was also pitched as a possible opponent, while fans continue to clamor for a long-anticipated clash between Austin and CM Punk.
While there’s still no confirmation of an official return, the door certainly isn’t closed. If the stars align—and the right opponent emerges—Steve Austin could deliver one more seismic WrestleMania moment.
And as history has shown, when the glass shatters, anything can happen.
The Rattlesnake has had an illustrious career, but there are multiple top superstars he has never gone toe-to-toe with. The list is endless, but one name is the most anticipated: John Cena. Stone Cold returning could set the stage for this mega dream match.
Cena is on his retirement run, and a once-in-a-lifetime match against Austin would be a dream match for many fans. The flag-bearer of the Attitude Era vs the flag-bearer of the Ruthless Aggression era. Though their primes never overlapped in the ring, both men share an unmatched legacy as box office draws and locker room leaders. A clash between them would transcend eras, fan bases, and storytelling styles.
With The GOAT currently a heel, the match would make perfect sense. Of course, nobody would expect an in-ring clinic from both of these guys, but just the build and anticipation of the match itself would carry the entire program.
