A move which has shockwaves through, R-Truth’s WWE Release—the ageless wonder, the comedic genius, the heart of Monday Night Raw—took to social media on June 1st to reveal a truth no one wanted to hear: he’s been released by WWE.

“I’m sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE,” Truth shared. “I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride… Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years.”

While it was later clarified that the release is tied to the expiration of his contract, the pain remains the same. The man who gave us Little Jimmy, 24/7 chaos, and a comedic timing that could rival anyone in entertainment, is walking away from the company he helped define for two decades.

Backstage reaction to R-Truth being let go

Absolute heartbreak.

Per Fightful:

“A lot of shock and disbelief within the WWE roster over R-Truth not being brought back.”

And perhaps no one was more crushed than Brian “Road Dogg” James, now SmackDown’s Head Writer and Truth’s former tag partner. He stated that though he is upset this is ”the nature of the beast.”

The timing of R-Truth’s WWE release has exposed the company as soulless

R-Truth's WWE release

R-Truth has been a fixture of the company for decades. Being the oldest active competitor, the former NWA Champion might not be in his best years as an in-ring performer, but has always entertained the fans.

It was reported that John Cena had personally asked to work with R-Truth during his ongoing retirement tour. And it was only for this reason that the company hung on to the legend.

Cena and R-Truth had a brief program which culminated in a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event last month.

However, Truth being let go by the company just days after his big match is a clear indication that the company isn’t afraid to be brazzen and is a corporate machine under TKO where a superstars could be let go almost as soon as his role is served.

Ironically, Truth was informed that he would be let go only after his program with Cena came to an end. Because had they told him beforehand, and he made the information public, interest for his clash with Cena would have severely diminished.

The Journey of R-Truth

But R-Truth’s story goes way deeper than punchlines and pranks.

He first joined WWE back in 1999 under the name K-Kwik, teaming with Road Dogg in a run that—while short—planted the seeds of something special. When he was released in 2001, Truth didn’t vanish. He ascended. In TNA, he shattered ceilings, becoming the first (and still only) Black NWA World Champion in history. That’s not just wrestling history. That’s history, period.

He returned home to WWE in 2008, and from there, became a fixture. Not just a wrestler. Not just a veteran. But a pillar. Whether he was in the title picture or chasing the 24/7 Championship with a referee in tow, Truth never missed. He entertained. He connected. He made people laugh—and just as often, he made them feel.
