Lawsuit Filed Against AEW and Jon Moxley – Everything You Need To Know

AEW and current World Champion Jon Moxley have been named in a civil lawsuit filed by a production crew member, Christopher Dispensa, who has alleged negligence and civil assault related to an incident during the May 10, 2023, episode of AEW Dynamite.

Dispensa is employed by Broadcast Service Group, the company responsible for providing production crew services to AEW. He began working with them in 2019, but according to his legal representatives, his involvement with AEW ended on December 5, 2024.

First reported by The Takedown via Sports Illustrated, the suit was filed in Michigan by Dispensa, a member of Broadcast Service Group, which provides AEW with production support.

What are Christopher Dispensa’s claims in the lawsuit against Jon Moxley and AEW?

The lawsuit centres around a steel cage match between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley. During the bout, Moxley exited the ring and, in an unscripted moment, grabbed a screwdriver from Dispensa and allegedly shoved him. The incident is visible at the 3:55 mark of the episode.

Dispensa claims the shove resulted in serious neck and shoulder injuries, which later required cervical fusion, shoulder surgery, and additional treatment. His legal team asserts that Moxley was only meant to take the screwdriver and not make physical contact, arguing the shove constitutes civil assault and battery.

They further claim Moxley demonstrated either intent to harm or reckless disregard for safety, noting alleged prior disciplinary concerns involving him.

The lawsuit also accuses AEW of gross negligence for failing to prevent the incident and for not providing proper oversight or training. Dispensa’s team argues that AEW failed in its duty to protect its staff, crew, and talent, and did not follow up on the incident despite management being aware.

Fans have already started making memes on Dispena’s demand for compensation after being pushed by Jon Moxley:

What are Dispena’s demands?

Dispensa did not file an official report at the time, citing obligations to another job. However, he states he spoke with AEW physician Dr. Michael Sampson, trainer Chris Manzione, and other medical personnel.

Dr. Sampson reportedly expressed frustration, saying all physical interactions with crew should be cleared in advance. Dispensa adds that AEW’s training staff later declined to treat him further, and he and Moxley never discussed the matter beyond a brief exchange after the segment.

Dispensa is seeking damages in excess of $25,000 for medical expenses, permanent injuries, emotional distress, lost income, and damage to his reputation. The filing includes both economic and non-economic damages under Michigan law.
