”He doesn’t want to just say he was wrong”- Matt Hardy takes a shot at Triple H over damage-control booking of top star

In pro wrestling, perception is power. And if there’s one man who’s mastered the power of perception, it’s the WWE Chief Creative Officer Triple H. However, even The Game seems to have faltered.

Earlier this month, the veteran stunned the WWE Universe with a comeback at Money in the Bank, just six days after revealing that his contract was expiring. A whirlwind of buzz. A storm of outrage. Fans, pundits, even wrestlers from other promotions — they all rallied behind the man who has spent two decades blending comedy with credibility, chaos with charisma.

That noise reached Stamford.

Before Killings could even flirt with free agency, WWE hit the brakes and reversed course. Just like that, the deal was done. R-Truth re-signed — a quick fix to what could’ve been a PR disaster. Or so it seemed.

Triple H claimed R-Truth’s ‘release’ was a work

Speaking at the Money in the Bank Post Show Press Conference, Paul Levesque — WWE’s Chief Content Officer — coolly brushed aside the headlines, suggesting it was “all part of the show.” A throwaway line to some. But to others, especially to Truth himself, his family, and many in the locker room, it was a glaring rewrite of a very real chapter.

TNA legend and former WWE superstar Matt Hardy didn’t mince words on the latest edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast:

“I get where Hunter is coming from. He doesn’t want to just say he was wrong. He wants to keep things mysterious — like, was it a work, was it a shoot? Who knows?”

That mystery is often part of WWE’s magic. But in this case, it felt more like a misdirection — an executive spinning a contract controversy into kayfabe convenience.

Because the truth — pun fully intended — was out there. Multiple sources, including Killings himself, confirmed his deal was legitimately about to expire.

To his credit, Levesque has handled real-life contract drama with transparency before. CM Punk’s shocking return in 2023, Adam Copeland’s exit just months earlier — both were addressed head-on. Which made his vagueness here feel out of place… even disingenuous.

Matt Hardy believes Triple H needs to be more transparent

Former ECW World Champion Matt Hardy hit the nail on the head:

“When you’re in Triple H’s role, you have to be as transparent as possible. Just say, ‘Hey, this happened. The fans love Ron Killings. We heard them — and we brought him back.’ It could’ve been that simple.”

But in WWE, nothing is ever just simple.

The lines between reality and storyline have always been blurred — it’s part of the art form. But sometimes, trying to kayfabe your way out of accountability backfires. Fans aren’t as easily worked in 2025. They want spectacle, yes — but they also crave sincerity.

In this case, they were given half of each.

Now, with the smoke beginning to clear, one fact remains undisputed: R-Truth is back. And he’s not wasting any time — stepping into the ring this Friday on SmackDown against none other than WWE Champion John Cena in a non-title clash. A rematch of their Saturday Night’s Main Event match weeks ago.
