Pat McAfee could be leaving WWE; Who will replace him?

Pat McAfee Considering New Project Amid WWE and ESPN Commitments

Pat McAfee has been a fixture on WWE programming for some time, primarily serving as a commentator on the RAW brand alongside Michael Cole.

Known for his infectious energy and charisma, McAfee occasionally steps into the ring — most recently against Gunther at Backlash — and continues to draw mainstream attention to WWE through The Pat McAfee Show.

Outside the squared circle, McAfee remains a prominent figure in sports media. He is a key part of ESPN’s College GameDay and still has around two years remaining on his current contract.

According to The Athletic, McAfee has reportedly discussed the idea of launching an independent version of College GameDay with close associates. While this wouldn’t be an immediate move due to his existing ESPN commitments, it’s a concept that seems to be gaining traction.

What this means for his future with ESPN — and whether The Pat McAfee Show might follow suit in breaking away — remains unclear.

Who could replace Pat McAfee as the color commentator on RAW?

Despite his growing portfolio of projects, McAfee has consistently expressed his love for WWE and his role within the company. Even if he pursues an independent sports show, it’s unlikely he’ll walk away from professional wrestling entirely. His passion for WWE and the opportunities it provides have made him a valuable part of the broadcast team.

That said, McAfee was notably absent from the most recent episode of RAW, with Wade Barrett filling in on commentary — a move that naturally raised questions about his future plans.

McAfee has taken long sabbaticals before, and might do so again. Or he could be done with the company and focus solely on his upcoming projects.

In such a case, Corey Graves would be the perfect choice to replace him. Graves has past experience as the color commentator on RAW and has good chemistry with Michael Cole.

For now, it appears McAfee is simply exploring his options while maintaining his commitments. Whether this turns into a major shift or just another creative venture remains to be seen.
